Frequently Asked Questions for the 3 Day Safari from Zanzibar

Before choosing the right 3-day safari from Zanzibar, it helps to understand how the journey unfolds in practice. These frequently asked questions address the details that matter most — from travel logistics and family suitability to wildlife expectations and cost.

1. Which safari option is best for families, seniors, first-time safari travellers, and experienced guests?

  • Northern Circuit Classic is ideal for first-time safari travellers and anyone who wants maximum variety in a short time.

  • Northern Circuit Active is a great fit if you love scenery and want the extra experience of a ranger-led walking safari.

  • Nyerere – Southern Wilderness suits experienced safari guests and travellers looking for more space, fewer vehicles, and a deeper wilderness feel, including time on the river.

  • For families and seniors, all options can work—the key is your preferred pace, comfort level, and whether walking activities are desired.

2. How long are game drives—and why is there often a midday break?

  • A typical day includes 2 to 3 hours in the morning and 2 to 3 hours in the late afternoon

  • On some days, longer game drives are possible, for example in the Ngorongoro Crater with a picnic

  • Midday breaks are common due to heat and reduced animal activity. Many guests use this time to relax at the camp or lodge. Later, you head out again when temperatures drop and the warm evening light sets in.

3. How much time should I plan for transfers—and how much time will I spend in the parks?

  • All options include a fly-in from Zanzibar

  • Drive times vary depending on the route and accommodation

  • The itineraries are planned so you still have meaningful time for game drives each day

4. Is the safari private or shared with a group?

  • All tours are run as a private safari.

  • You travel only with your own party and your driver-guide—no other guests are added.

5. What activities are possible—boat safari and walking safari?

Activities depend on the option and availability:

  • Northern Circuit Active: walking safari in Arusha National Park

  • Northern Circuit Classic: optional walking safari or canopy walk in Lake Manyara

  • Nyerere – Southern Wilderness: boat safari on the Rufiji River and, in some cases, walking safaris

What’s possible can vary by season, lodge location, and park regulations

6. What wildlife do you typically see—and when are sightings best?

  • Northern Circuit: commonly elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebra, and wildebeest, with chances for lions and leopard

  • Ngorongoro Crater: exceptionally high wildlife density; with luck, the Big Five in a single day, and rhinos are possible but rare

  • Nyerere in the south: intensive wildlife viewing along the Rufiji River with hippos and crocodiles, plus rich birdlife; the park is also habitat for African wild dogs—sightings are never guaranteed, but a special highlight
